  • "THE MUSIC INSTITUTE" TICKETS AND MEMBERSHIP

    The club has been well supported in its 19-year existence and most of the
    audience attend regularly. We therefore offer the opportunity to take out
    annual membership for just £5.00 per person which entitles you to a reduction on
    on the price of your admission to the club for a year from January
    to December. This discount applies to all events organised
    by the West Surrey Folk Consortium, i.e. both the folk club at the Institute
    and some concerts and dances elsewhere.

    MEMBERSHIP: 2024 - £5.00 per person

    The club room can only accommodate 60, consequently in order to control numbers
    tickets may only be purchased in advance.

    Although we are happy to sell tickets in advance for logistical reasons we
    cannot reserve tickets.


  • DIRECTIONS

    The most convenient and plentiful parking can be found in the Leapale Road
    multi-storey car park. To get there, come off the roundabout (at the junction
    of Woodbridge Road and York Road) on to Onslow Street (heading towards the
    town centre) in the left hand lane. Turn left immediately, up Woodbridge Road,
    and keep straight on along Leapale Road. The entrance to the multi-story is
    half way along Leapale Road on the left-hand side.
    If you park on level 4 you can exit at street level into Haydon Place.


  • The Guildford Institute

    THE GUILDFORD INSTITUTE

    The Guildford Institute (originally the Guildford Mechanics Institute) was founded
    in 1843 and has a members library dating back to the 19th century. It moved to its
    present town centre home in 1892 and developed a range of social, cultural and
    educational activities and runs a number of interesting courses.
    At lunchtimes, on weekdays in term time, excellent vegetarian lunches are are
    on sale to the public and served in the Assembly Room and Ladies' Room.

    The entrance to the Guildford Institute is in Ward Street. The
    folk club meets on the first floor in the Assembly Room.

    The Guildford Institute is a no-smoking venue.


  • ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED, THE BAR, RUNNING TIMES
    AND FLOOR SINGERS

    The building has recently been refurbished to make it fully accessible to people in
    wheelchairs, including access by lift to all three floors and disabled toilets.

    The Institute is licensed to sell alcohol but can only run a limited bar service -
    bottled beers and a small range of wines and spirits - plus tea and coffee.
    The bar is open until 10.00pm.

    We are required to finish the evening at 10.30pm and the building vacated by
    11.00pm. This means that timings are tight. The doors open at 7.30pm and the music
    begins at 8.00pm.

    Please note that we usually only have time to fit in a couple of floorsingers. It is
    best to phone in advance - 01483 871443 - to see whether a spot is available.


  • THE WEST SURREY FOLK CONSORTIUM

    The Music Institute folk club and the GBH Ceilidhs are run by the not-for-profit
    organisation "West Surrey Folk Consortium" (WSFC). The aims of objectives of
    the WSFC are as follows:

    "The Consortium aims to encourage the enjoyment, appreciation and
    performance of traditional and contemporary folk music, song and dance.
    It aims to introduce contemporary roots-based music from these islands
    and abroad to both established and new audiences and seeks to encourage
    young performers and organisers to support the continuation of the
    many forms of the traditional performing arts."
